Radio Conversation

Ok guys, this is a good one:
Have you ever noticed how when the radio turns on (with some kind of talk show) it completely drains all conversation in the car. I noticed it yesterday when our friend picked us up and we were talking, my sister was being loud (as usual). Then the car started and a random talk show came on. Everyone instantly stopped talking. I thought it was amazing...
Anyway, what are your opinions on this? Write some advantages and disadvanges of it in the comments. The person with the most advantages and the person with the most disadvantages can get a choice of a prize:
1. I'll advertise your blog for the next 5 posts
or
2. If you don't have a blog, you can email a post to arsponge@gmail.com and I'll post it on my blog (if you do have a blog, you can choose this option, too).

And just so you know, first come, first serve. So if you get here first and you're the first one to comment with a reason, no one can take that reason. So don't even try. I don't care if you thought of it before looking at the comments.

By the way, here's the Challenge from http://keepingup-247.blogspot.com/

Today's Challenge:
There are three things that I want you to do for this challenge; first, I want you to always turn off the lights when you leave a room empty; second, if its cold outside, I want you to turn the thermostat atleast two degrees down (colder), and then if its hot, turn the thermostat two degrees up (hotter); third, if you don't already, use a refillable water bottle rather than a plastic one.

Hey Alisa-
I've noticed the same thing! Radios take away quality time with family. Why listen to the radio when you could be bonding with your family? Getting to know your family better lets you become more comfortable with your family members. I know that I used to be very uncomfortable talking to my parents alone, but now I tell them almost everything! We hardly ever listen to the radio now. If there were no radios, friends and family wouldn't have a choice but to start a conversation, otherwise they would be left feeling pretty awkward, you know what I mean? I believe that the only advantage coming out of radios is entertainment. I think a fun family conversation is much better than sitting around and listening to the radio.

thank you.

Well, there used to be a time when listening to the radio was really special, before there were t.v's of course. Everyone would listen to the radio, and enjoy the stories that would come up. I guess that our parents just inherited that from their parents, but there is a flaw- there are no real stories on the radio, just talk shows and music channels. It's better than what t.v has done to us, though.

Actually, if you listen to XM radio, you can hear CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC live, though it's not as good as watching it on TV.

And I agree with you, Surya. I deifinitely prefer radio over TV.

well, my dad usually listens to some news station on the car about politics or weather. we usually don't talk in the car bcuz there isn't anything 2 talk about. when we do have something 2 talk about, my dad usually turns off the radio. he mostly uses the radio to keep from falling asleep while driving at night. kinda pointless, cuz it makes everyone else fall asleep and then he doesn't have anyone else to talk to. but other than that, i don't hear the radio on.
